A 5-Step Guide to Sales Shopping

Clothes Shopping, Rack, Black, White

Boxing Day marks the beginning of a wonderful season of sales. It's good to be prepared, so read below for some of my top tips on surviving sales shopping.

1) Arrive early.
We all know it - sales shopping is a chaotic event. Arrive early and beat the crowds for a (almost) hassle-free experience. Plus, you'll have a greater chance of finding that perfect piece in your size.

2) Prepare a list.

Just like I make lists for grocery shopping, I always prepare in advance for the sales. Seeing that this is an end-of-season period, I try to invest mostly in basic pieces that I can match across my wardrobe and accessories that I can re-use through the seasons. Having a list will also help you have a more targeted approach rather than wandering aimlessly around and impulse buying just for the sake of it.

3) Be disciplined.

Although it's tempting, try not to overspend on things you don't actually need. For example, a lot of Christmas-themed items will be heavily discounted, but they will only be relevant again next December - is it really worth it?

4) Be practical.
If you are venturing in and out of stores during the sales periods, wear practical clothing. Avoid multiple layers that will be an inconvenience in the changing rooms and carry a cross-body bag so you have your hands free for rummaging through the racks.

5) Consider shopping online.
Most stores extend their sales offerings online. If you can definitely get a refund if you change your mind about an item or order the wrong size, buy now and think later.

Happy shopping!
