Alternative Nights Out

alternative nights out

We're only half-way through December and I've already had enough of Christmas parties revolving around excessive eating and drinking. In fact, I'm typing this from my bed while I nurse a hangover from our office party. The thing is, I don't want to turn down any invitation because seeing friends and family is my favorite part of the holiday season. So read on for some of my favorite nights out that don't revolve (entirely) around alcohol.

I love going to the cinema and it's a shame seeing it lose popularity with young adults as everyone turns to Netflix these days. But I still think it's a great activity to do with friends, or a lovely date night idea. When you think about it, a cinema ticket will also turn out to be cheaper than all those drinks at the bar.

Escape Rooms
One of the most popular trends this year, and for good reason! I've recently had one of the best evenings out in London with friends while trying to solve puzzles in a bank heist-themed escape room game. Places like the Excape the Room Game offer you a set of increasingly difficult puzzles that you have to solve as a team in order to get out. It works with smaller groups as well as larger ones and it’s a fun activity that encourages a lot of positive communication and team work. It's honestly one of the best ice-breaker ideas in my opinion.

I understand if the idea of going to a museum or an art gallery is not the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of hanging out with friends. However, there are so many free ones that surely you'll be able to find something interesting for everyone. I've never regretted a trip to a museum and I'm sure you'll learn something new along the way as well.

Ghost Tours
People are often put off ghost tours because they don’t believe in ghosts, but trust me, you don’t have to. These things don’t usually take themselves too seriously and it’s just a bit of fun that everybody can get involved with, usually while taking a walking tour along the most iconic parts of town. Just make sure that you don’t go with any friends that scare easy!
